The Wet Fish

Another eight year old. Goofy kid really. He's got two buck-teeth that remind you of "Mater" in the movie "Cars". And oh...by the way... he tells a story (lie) at least once a minute! Anyway, here's the "story." We'll call him "Mater" :)

Our school was at an annual field day. We have only about 45 kids in our school, an intense behavioral and emotionally disturbed group. During the field day kids pick certain activities such as fishing, basketball, hiking, etc. "Mater" chose fishing.

Dialog:

Mater: I got one, I got one Mrs. G! (he tells one of the teaching staff).

Mrs. G: Pull it in Mater!

(Mater reeled it in...and got the fish on shore. He goes to touch the fish and says in astonishment...

Mater: Oh my God Mrs. G, the fish is WET!!!!!!!

That's our Mater...

Copy Cat

I'm Not Copying!

An eight year old (we'll call him Cal)was doing an assignment in his 6:1:1 special education class. His teacher noticed that he was copying from the boy next to him, who's name was Norman.

Here's the dialog:

Teacher: Cal, stop copying from Norman's paper...

Cal: "I'm not copying from him!" he said in a resolute, energized way.

(2 minutes later)

Teacher: "Cal, stop copying from Norman, I see you doing it"

Cal: "I'm not copying from him, stop!" he demanded the teacher stop the accusations.

Teacher: "You are copying...do I have to move your desk away?"

Cal: "No I'm not!" Becoming angry, he puffs out his chest and challenges the teacher.

Here the teacher walks over to Cal's desk, picks up the paper and reads the top of the page where it says:

Name: Norman

True story!

They Can't Spell My Name!

Caleb, an eight year old, goes to Occupational Therapy at school once a week. He enters the OT area and above there is a sign that says "Cable", a warning sign as there is a cable hanging there. Each time he reports for OT he is quick to point to the sign and state in a serious way:

"Hey they still keep spelling my name wrong!"

Finally...We Start Recording!

Pay attention!

It's been nearly 15 years and I have wanted to record the amazing stories, quotes, and beliefs of children. Most especially my interest has been with kids who present the most challenging emotions, behavior, social, and psychological needs! Why? Well it happens to be that I work intensely with these type of kids and so do many other clinicians, educators, language specialists, nurses, administrators, and PARENTS!

The GOAL of these pages on this web log is to simply catalog and present a view from our most special kids in society...in their own special language. The acute reader will reflect much, ponder, and maybe even solve some puzzles in the minds of the kids they serve.

Please join on this Enchanting Journey! Soon you may add YOUR experiences, quotes, and short stories of your experience(s) as a parent, teacher, counselor, administrator, speech/language specialist, or other allied health professions as it relates to our special kids lives. We have all thought of this...now we can express it!
